Power in the Tongue

You know it really bothers me when people talk so negative. Especially Christians! If you are a child of God then you have something to be happy about. And it is not about being happy but having joy. we are not promised that everything will be good, and we will not always be happy, but we can make a choice each and every day to have joy. Something I learned in church was that joy stood for
(J)Jesus (O) Others (Y) Yourself. If we keep Jesus first, love our neighbors (others) as ourselves, and then put ourselves next, we can find joy.

But even when you are having a bad day, be careful of the things you say. There is power in the tongue. Here are a few Bible verses that I found on the same subject. Read and see what the word of God says about the tongue:

Abel's Field DVD Review/Giveaway

I recently had the pleasure of receiving a DVD, Abel's Field, for the purpose of doing a review and hosting a giveaway. Let me start by saying that I truly LOVE watching a movie that I can watch with my whole family that I don't have to worry about the language or other obscenities. This is one of those family-friendly movies. I would take this movie to church for our monthly movie night but there are 2 places in the movie where they are in a bar drinking and for that we would not watch it at church.

About Abel's Field
Left motherless by tragedy and abandoned by his father, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) faces enormous pressure as he strives to support his little sisters. At school, he endures the daily bullying of the football team. But fighting back only finds him singled out for punishment and assigned to an after-school work detail under the supervision of the reserved groundskeeper, Abel (SOUL SURFER’S Kevin Sorbo). Much to his surprise, Seth discovers that Abel may be the only one who truly understands his struggles. As dark times lure Seth toward desperate measures, the reluctant Abel may be the one person who can point him back toward the light.

My Thoughts
As I watched this movie with my husband and kids I kept thinking about how teens these days are constantly complaining about how bad they have it. Teens these days have Iphones, Ipads, Ipods and all other types of computers and game systems. They drive nice cars when they get their license and they tend to be really spoiled. Yet they always seem to complain when they don't get their way or don't get something that they want.

The young man in this movie is only 17, he is raising his 7-yr old twin sisters, going to high school and having to work. He has a half-brother that will not help him in any way and this guy is really struggling. But in all that he has going on, he does not complain. He, of course, is not really happy about the situation but he does what he has to do to raise his sisters and make life for them as normal as possible. He makes a lot of sacrifices that most teens would not do for their family.

I totally recommend this movie to everyone! It is a great movie about sacrifice, family, friendships and finding faith in the least likely places.

Wow it has been a while....

I have been so busy and knew that I had not blogged in a while but I really did not realize it had been so long. I really wish I was better at prioritizing and making time to do all the things that I want to do but, in all honesty, I go to work and work all day and then when I get home I cook dinner and then all I want to do is lay on the couch and watch t.v. with the family. I did sign up this year, along with 108,000+ other people, to read the Bible all the way through in 2013. I am really excited too because I always say that I want to read the Bible through and, just like with everything else in my life, I get distracted and don't get it done. This year is different though because I signed a pledge. To some that does not mean a whole lot but to me the  pledge that I signed means everything. My pastor has always stressed the fact that it is better to never make a pledge than to make one and not keep it. I feel like I made a pledge to God, therefore, I feel more pressure, you could say, to do what I have said I would do. I had to get myself in a routine that I knew I could keep - I get up in the morning and get me a cup of coffee and sit down and read. No one else in the house is up yet, except my daughter and she is good about doing her own thing, so I have that little bit of time to myself.

I am going to try to get myself in more of a habit where I can blog a little more as well. My sister over at Southern Mom of 4 keeps telling me all about these great opportunities I am missing, but I just do not seem to find the time. I do have a great DVD review/giveaway coming up soon so hopefully that will get me back in the groove. Anyway, I hope to not be away so long....
